Moy Materials celebrates record training figures

Investment into the next generation of roofing operatives is said to be a key corporate value held by Moy Materials, a supplier of waterproofing and insulation systems. The growing system suppliers have this month celebrated training over 500 liquid waterproofing operatives in conjunction with its partners, Enke-Werk, in little over four years.

As a member of the Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA), Moy Materials has focused on the upskilling of operatives from across the UK and Ireland to ensure the highest level of workmanship using its liquid waterproofing products. With continued growth across the construction industry across various market sectors, many roofing companies are focusing on the upskilling and development of their staff, particularly in areas of liquid waterproofing, a fast-growing technology in the roofing industry.

As part of a three-day intensive training course Moy Materials, alongside Enke-Werk, have invested in operative training from practical demonstrations, classroom theory sessions and tours of the manufacturing facilities, which is said to ensure a full understanding of the liquid waterproofing process.

As part of their commitment to future generations of roofers, Moy Materials are sending 15 young roofing apprentices from the UK and Ireland to Enke-Werk’s second international Impuls-camp in Koszencin, Poland, for three days of learning and activities in June.

Pat Farrell, managing director of Moy Materials, said: “Through our valuable partnerships we have worked hard to upskill over 500 roofing operatives in the sector of liquid waterproofing, providing positive investment to their respective parent companies and ensuring highly-skilled roofing operatives who are committed to the highest standard of workmanship.”

As an example here is a snapshot of Enke Training which took place in May 2019 in our Paisley Training Centre with Strathclyde Roofers and Builders Ltd

We are delighted to showcase this stunning project on the coast of Rothesay in Scotland, delivered for Historic Scotland in conjunction with a private Building Surveying firm. This historic building was suffering from multiple points of water ingress through aged felt coverings. Detailing to hand rail posts and low-standing clerestory windows were of particular concern.

Working closely with the client’s Surveyors at Cushman & Wakefield, we agreed a best- fit specification for a roof refurbishment solution, utilising our Paralon Total Warm Roof System (BBA certified as an assembly) with Enkopur cold-applied liquid detailing to critical zones. Red slate chippings from our Paralon membrane were cast into the wet Enkopur resin to provide a consistent finish to this iconic building.

Raising the Roof: TU Dublin announce MOY Scholarship Programme for students of Architectural Technology

To celebrate their 40th-year MOY, an established waterproofing full system provider for the roofing sector, have launched a scholarship programme to support Architectural Technologists of the future with three leading colleges in Ireland.

The programme is worth in excess of €10,000 of investment and promises to create stronger industry connections for students as they move from their scholarship year into final year and work placements.

MOY is delighted to partner with the Dublin School of Architecture, TU Dublin and its 3rd year BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology students. The scholarship arises from and builds upon an affiliation MOY have had with the Dublin School of Architecture over the past 20 years through industry presentations, site visits and architectural technology graduate engagement initiatives. In announcing details of the scholarship, Cormac Allen from TU Dublin said “The Dublin School of Architecture, TU Dublin is delighted to partner with MOY in this exciting new industry-focused scholarship programme. We especially welcome the focus that the MOY scholarship brings to the role of the Architectural Technologist technical designer and specifier in the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. The MOY scholarship will provide welcome financial support for a deserving third-year student as they enter their professional practice work placement programme.”

MOY is leading the way in supporting Architectural Technologists of the future and understand the importance of nurturing young talent.  “The MOY scholarship is our way to celebrate blossoming talent and help alleviate some of the acknowledged financial hardship students experience towards achieving their goal.  A further part of the scholarship is a placement with a leading architectural firm which will be matched with the student’s interest and expertise.  Alongside this will also be onsite training in specialised roofing systems with us at MOY and a selected roofing contractor. We really look forward to developing our affiliation with TU Dublin who we’ve established strong links with over the past number of years through presenting our industry CPD’s to students of architecture and architectural technology” said Cathal Quinn Global Commercial Director.

Application forms will be circulated in September, shortlisting and interviews will be held in October 2019.
